Walk through Somers Gardens and up the steps to the North gate onto Blockade Alley. Look up the hill and see the curious folly of St. George's - the Unfinished Church that never had a congregation. Designed in the 1870's to replace St. Peter's, the building work was beset by stringent financial difficulties and, for a period, a schism in the Anglican congregation. Then a storm did severe damage, and slowly the proponents lost heart, so that it was never finished.
